De Nederlandse Vereniging voor Zeegeschiedenis doet een oproep om MA-scripties in te zenden voor de J.R. Bruijn-prijs 2025. Het doel van deze prijs is het stimuleren van de interesse voor en onderzoek naar de (Nederlandse) maritieme geschiedenis, speciaal onder aankomende wetenschappers en andere jonge belangstellenden. De prijs wordt uitgeloofd voor een masterscriptie met een maritiem-historisch onderwerp of een onderwerp behorend tot een andere discipline met een duidelijk raakvlak met de zeegeschiedenis. De prijs bestaat uit een geldbedrag van 1.000 euro en een oorkonde.

Interdisciplinary in its approach, Maritime Humanities, 1400–1800: Cultures of the Sea welcomes books from across the full range of humanities subjects, and invites submissions that conceptually engage with issues of globalization, post-colonialism, eco-criticism, environmentalism, and the histories of science and technology. The series puts maritime humanities at the centre of a transnational historiographical scholarship that seeks to transform traditional land-based histories of states and nations by focusing on the cultural meanings of the early modern ocean. The start-up fellowships provide financial support to write a grant application, with the aim to carry out a research project at Trier university’s chair of early modern history (with either European or German funding). Mentoring will be provided by the university’s Grant Office and the chair holder (Prof. Dr. Damien Tricoire). Trier University has developed into a major centre of maritime history thanks to its TRANSMARE institute (https://transmare.uni-trier.de/). Maritime history is broadly understood as the history of the interactions between humans and the seas/the oceans, and social, cultural and political phenomena shaping these interactions, or influenced or made possible by them.
